West Germany trip part 4 - Wilhelmstahl

Wilhelmsthal is a pleasant 20 minute car drive from Kassel. As time was against us, and not wanting to give "battlefield weariness" to Mrs H, I just visited the Wilhelmstahl section of the action and did not visit the area where Sporkens columns appeared from the Reinhardswald woods.

Schloss Wilhelmsthal which is open to the public, and has a a superb display of flat figurines
Sign telling the story of the drummer boy of Wilhelmsthal

                                                               Furstenwald Woods

French position in front of the Schloss, Frankenhausen to the right,                                                                                       Furstenwald to the left
The village of Kallen can be seen on the horizon. This would have been the start position of the French line, with the Allies beyond the village and crest.

This battlefield is well worth a visit, with the Schloss as an aditional point of interest. Nothing much has changes since 1762, with very little development, and most of the fields and woods where the action took place, still easy to access.
An interesting morning, with glorious weather.... Next a short journey to Warburg, some refreshments in the town, then on to the battlefield.
